Oeko-Tex launches new carbon and water measurement tool

Shirley® are proud to be the official OEKO-TEX® office in the UK, assisting a network of brands and their suppliers in implementing safe and sustainable certification and testing strategies within their global supply chains.

Looking excitedly to the year ahead, Shirley® are pleased to announce new additions to the OEKO-TEX® product portfolio. STeP by OEKO-TEX® has introduced a Carbon and Water Footprint Tool. As part of its Roadmap to Excellence, the STeP by OEKO-TEX® programme has developed a simple, user-friendly digital Carbon and Water Footprint Tool. Textile manufacturing facilities will soon be able to measure and report their carbon emissions and water usage at facility level, either by processing step or for 1kg of material. The Carbon and Water Footprint Tool will be launching early 2022.

The mission is to create trust in textiles and leather and in their production: through increased product safety, improving sustainable production and a sustainable, transparent value-creation chain. In 2022 OEKO-TEX® will also launch further initiatives to support sustainability and product transparency within textile supply chains; Shirley® will hold seminars and webinars for UK clients to support these new launches.

For another consecutive year, Shirley® have reported positive results, issuing a record number of certificates and labels in the past year, an increase of 31% compared to 2019/2020. Once again, MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® grew the most, doubling the number of labels with Shirley® issuing over 1500 labels to UK brands and their suppliers. In response to soaring demand Shirley® are expanding their UK office and welcomed new members to an ever growing team.
