ASBCI Premier Member ASOS has announced plans to invest £90 million in a new fulfilment centre in Lichfield, Staffordshire, and to employ 2,000 people at the site over the next three years.

An AEW and Allianz Real Estate joint venture, the 437,000 sqft warehouse is situated on the A38 and will serve ASOS’s customers in the UK and overseas. It will be operational with 12 months and is expected to reach capacity for peak trade in 2023. It is the fourth global fulfilment centre for ASOS, which already operates facilities in Barnsley, Berlin and Atlanta.

‘We’re thrilled to be laying down the foundations for our future growth in Lichfield,’ said ASOS CEO Nick Beighton. ‘This significant investment in infrastructure and large-scale job creation is a reflection of the confidence ASOS has in its future and the quality of the skills and talent available in this well-placed location. When fully up and running in 2023, the site will support our ever-increasing customer demand and enable us to develop our offerings and delivery capabilities even further.’

Business Secretary Alok Sharma welcomed the news, calling ASOS ‘a great British success story at the heart of our vibrant fashion industry’ and describing the move as a ‘clear vote of confidence in our skilled workforce’. He added: ‘This job-creating investment in Lichfield is exactly the type of long-term commitment we need from businesses as we build back better from the pandemic.’
