ASBCI SUSTAINABILITY WEBINAR SERIES

The ASBCI is delighted to announce the launch of our new sustainability webinar series Fashion The Change, helping members address the issues that matter today.

Spurred on by COP26 and the climate crisis, the pressure is on the fashion industry to become more sustainable. Already a priority for many businesses, this has become more urgent in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, which highlighted the fragility of global supply chains and raised consumer awareness of the environmental cost of the products we buy.

But going green isn’t easy. Initiatives like the Race to Zero Campaign provide focus, but to truly transform the impact of fashion on our planet, a paradigm shift is required. Businesses need to take immediate action, not just within their own operations, but right across their supply chains, and look at the entire product lifecycle from conception to disposal. Or, ideally, reuse. From designing garments to last longer to engineering them for ease of recycling or reuse, circular thinking will be just as important as initiatives to reduce energy use, water consumption, and chemical contamination.

This new series of free, member-only events from the ASBCI will tackle critical issues at key points in the product journey, starting with a deep dive into net zero – what it means, how to get there with realistic, science-based targets, and the complexities of tackling scope three emissions.

Sponsored by ASBCI premier member Intertek, this first webinar in the series takes place on 1 December at 10am. It will feature expert speakers and actionable insights that delegates can apply to their own businesses, whatever stage they are at in their journey to net zero.

A second Intertek-sponsored event will follow on 2 December at 10am looking at sustainability in the Indian textile sector. The webinar will review the sustainable business practices adopted by Indian companies, examine the role and responsibility of suppliers in achieving sustainability, and make recommendations for establishing sustainability frameworks within organisations.
