Join us for our next Northern Clothing and Textile Network event and hear from leading textile and clothing specialists on some of the latest cutting-edge technologies and exciting developments shaping the future of the sector.

This event is aimed at those businesses wanting to improve their manufacturing capabilities and use of digital technology and helping them expand their Supply Chain, with regards to suppliers and clients.

Chris McCann, Resilient.World

Circular Economy, Business Transformation and 21st Century Challenges

Chris has over twenty years experience managing social and environmental programmes for companies including Burberry, Littlewoods, GUS, and Wal-Mart, and has been involved in the development of the Global Social Compliance Programme, is a past Board member of the UK Gangmasters Licencing Authority, and has served as a member of the British Retail Consortium Ethical Standards group. Chris will share his thoughts on sustainability and the circular economy, and the challenges facing businesses as they try to balance sustainability and profitability.


Prof. Parik Goswarmi, Huddersfield University

Textiles as a tool to sustainable topical innovations.

Parik is Director of the Technical Textiles Research Centre and will discuss the role of chemical functionalisation in technical textile innovation, and how chemical functionalisation could be used to achieve sustainability in textile manufacturing. He will also discuss some contemporary challenges that the textile industry is facing and how we need to approach innovation strategically.
 

Adam Mansell, CEO of the UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT)

The most comprehensive guide to Brexit readiness for the UK fashion and textile industry

Adam will provide practical advice and support for UK fashion and textile businesses in the lead up to the exit from the European Union. He will outline the actions that companies should be taking to minimise disruption to trade, with a chance to ask questions on specific issues that affect their business.

The event will cover both exporting to the EU and importing from the EU. UKFT will provide an update on the latest developments regarding:

  • Export Paperwork
  • Samples (Bringing in or taking out)
  • Export / Import Tariffs
  • Outward Processing Relief (OPR)
  • Common Transit Convention
  • VAT (for importing or exporting)

The Northern Clothing and Textile Network is a partnership between David Reay and Design Network North.

David Reay has 35 years of experience in the clothing and textile industry and has held senior posts with J Barbour & Sons, Jockey International and many other well-known international brands. David hails from the North East of England and is committed to furthering the renaissance of the clothing and textile industry in the North.

Design Network North, a project delivered by RTC North, was established in 2007 with the aim of increasing the contribution that design makes to the economy. They firmly believe that great design can improve any product, service or business. They support local businesses and their design projects in a variety of ways, through funding, workshops and one-to-one support.
