ASBCI is delighted to announce a technical visit at James Heal in Halifax which is FREE and EXCLUSIVE to ASBCI members.  Established over 150 years ago in Halifax, James Heal designs and manufactures premium quality textiles testing instruments and consumables, used by global brands and clothing manufacturers, independent testing houses and universities worldwide.

The technical visit will take place on Wednesday 8th November 2023 - there is a morning and afternoon session to choose from, both groups are invited to lunch and networking between 1.00pm-1.40pm

Afternoon = 1.00pm – 3.45pm

Who is it for?  This technical visit will be of interest to anyone involved in the manufacturing, sourcing, or testing of textile-based products from everyday clothing, sports and outdoor wear to protective workwear, accessories, and footwear, even home furnishings.

What you will learn?  In this behind-the-scenes tour of James Heal you will take a look at how textile testing instruments are designed and made, gain an understanding of different types of tests, why they are important and what the results will show you, as well as the consumables that are needed for accurate repeatable testing.

What will the visit include?

  • Textiles testing – Why do it? Gain an insight into test standards, plus the latest on durability and sustainability. Plus, find out what’s new in performance testing!
  • Innovation Centre - Explore the product design and engineering processes for developing innovative solutions.
  • Factory tour - Starting out from sheet metal see how instruments progress through to electro-mechanical engineering, into quality checking then packing fit for shipping across the globe.
  • Test Materials Centre - Learn about test material products, produced and quality checked in their mill.
  • Service & Calibration - Understand the importance of servicing and the role of accreditation in calibrating equipment.
  • Laboratory focus - A look at instruments performing testing that is done on the garments we wear every day.
  • Q & A session - Your chance to ask the experts.
