The Lycra Company and LaundRe sustainable denim collaboration

The Lycra Company has strengthened its commitment to more sustainable denim production through a partnership with London-based denim finishing hub and training centre LaundRe.

Over the past year, the collaboration has showcased renewable Lycra fibre – a plant-based spandex derived from 70% corn – at LaundRe’s facility, giving designers, brands and manufacturers access to lower-impact stretch fibre technology.

The collaboration was highlighted during Denim Deal Day, hosted by LaundRe, which brought together weavers, brands, retailers, recyclers and sustainability specialists to explore innovations including post-consumer recycled cotton and more sustainable denim production.

Helen Latham, senior strategic account manager, brands and retail at The Lycra Company, said: ‘LaundRe and Denim Deal are on the cutting edge of the sustainable denim revolution. With the power of renewable Lycra fibre and more sustainable spandex innovations on the horizon, we’re working to build a new denim value chain that’s made with the planet in mind.’

The Lycra Company is also working with recycling partners to develop spandex recycling solutions.
