James Heal Free Textile Testing Whitepaper
The Lab Manager’s Guide to Performance Testing aims to help technicians and lab managers better understand the importance of performance testing and how it differs from the traditional textile testing for protectivewear and PPE.
The whitepaper covers industry trends, how to test protective fabrics, understanding the appropriate standards and test methods, and how to decide on the right type of testing instrument and reference materials.
James Heal has developed its performance testing range to incorporate the growth in the market for technical textiles in protectivewear, particularly for first responders and military apparel.
There are six instruments in the range, each with specialised features. For example, the WickView offers more advanced testing for moisture wicking behaviour in fabric, and the AquAbrasion tests the effects of wet abrasion to better replicate real-life wear situations. Having developed its own test methods, James Heal is working with the industry to establish new standards in these areas of textiles testing.
Colin Whittaker, business development manager at James Heal, said: ‘PPE fabrics and garments are critical for first responders and military personnel in hazardous environments. The construction of these fabrics and garments is complex, often involving specialised techniques and a combination of fibres. Our range of test instruments covers these requirements, and will continue to be developed alongside the ongoing advancement of technology in textiles.’
