Alex started his career as a trainee in a clothing factory and progressed into production management. He joined Everbond Interlinings as a technical representative at a time of significant change in the interlining industry with the development of fusibles. Later, as technical director, he travelled the globe helping manufacturers develop clothing production.
Alan Cannon Jones, former student membership committee chair, described Alex as ‘a man who was always willing to share his knowledge and experience with the colleagues, customers and students. As chair of the ASBCI technical committee, he was highly respected for his knowledge and skills.’
He writes: ‘A quotation by Robbie Burns is my fitting memory of Alex.
‘An honest man here lies at rest,
As e’er God with His image blest:
The friend of man, the friend of truth;
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so inform’d:
