The ASBCI's 2019 Annual General Meeting will be held once again at Barnsdale Lodge in Leicestershire, close the wonderful and beautiful Rutland Water - it is always a great way for our members to come together.  In addition to the REACH update and updates on the Association's performance from the ASBCI board, there will be a number of excellent guest speakers in the afternoon - not to be missed.

In addition to the formal items of the AGM, we have a range of excellent guest speakers, including a presentation of the winning 2018 ASBCI Student Innovation Award, sponsored by Lectra.

Details are as follows:

Prof. Joann Fletcher, Egyptologist, has agreed to join us at the AGM and her presentation is entitled ‘SPINNING AN ANCIENT YARN:  UNRAVELLING THE FASHIONS OF ANCIENT EGYPT AND ITS INFLUENCE TODAY’.   Joann who works for the University of York’s Department of Archaeology, and also for the museums of Barnsley and Harrogate and the Egypt Exploration Society, has written and presented programmes for the BBC, including the recent 4-part series Immortal Egypt with Joann Fletcher, and she was part of the 2012 team that won a BAFTA for the Channel 4 film Mummifying Alan: Egypt’s Last Secret’.

Jackie Lewis, Course Development, Alvanon/Motif - will outline ‘HOW ARE YOU GOING TO RETAIN AND TRAIN YOUR’ WORKFORCE’. The global fashion industry is in a war for talent.  The modern workplace demands a lot:  an evolving set of new skills due to the evolving landscape in addition to a sound understanding of industry fundamentals.  Is this why big fashion retailers, brands, manufacturers and vendors are facing a real shortage of workers with the right skills.

David Reay, Chair, Northern Clothing and Textile Network - David will provide some background to the Northern Clothing and Textile Network report on the vital role to be played in digital developments within the sector and how they are actively involved with emerging technology, in particular their close relationship with PROTO https://www.proto.co.uk/.  This will include the ‘virtual catwalk’ Augmented Reality app they developed recently with local companies.  David will also talk about their progress and plans with the Future Fashion Factory project https://futurefashionfactory.org/ 

Sheila Fraser-Whyte, Senior Consultant - Partnerships and Bids - FEA - Sheila works full-time as a Further Education Consultant with FEA, specialising in apprenticeship delivery, Ofsted Requirements and developing curriculum to meet learners needs.   She has over 25 years’ experience in education sector. She has worked with a number of Colleges, Private Training Providers and employers across the country.  She has worked with awarding bodies reviewing systems and processes in addition to developing apprenticeship programmes.   She advises on and provides training and coaching in strategic and operational aspects of management, change, developing apprenticeships, delivery of project and contracts.  She holds a number of advisory positions on company boards
