'Made in the UK -  Fashioning a Future for British Clothing Manufacturers ' conference review 2012

"Inspirational", "thought provoking" and "eye opening" were just some of the superlatives used by industry and press delegates to describe the recent ASBCI conference held at the Marriott Worsley Park Hotel near Manchester. Sponsored by fashion technology specialist Lectra and Lingerie Buyer magazine, nearly 170 delegates heard how an increasing number of companies really are making it in the UK!

Speakers included;

  • Katie Greenyer, creative director of Red or Dead, the Pentland Group
  • Michael Stoll, managing director of Cooper & Stollbrand and founder of the military inspired Private White VC brand
  • James Dracup, group managing director at Johnstons of Elgin
  • Ian Sime, director of supply chain, J Barbour & Sons Limited,
  • Sangita Khan, Creative Director at Buff Clothing Limited
  • Jonny Mitchell, Managing director of Legwear, Courtaulds brands
  • Michael Spenley, Director, Compliance Direct Company Limited (a Shop Direct Group company)
  • Jenny Holloway, Director of Fashion Enter Limited
  • Daniel Hanson, Founder and CEO of Daniel Hanson

The conference also hosted an expert panel comprising its chairman Alistair Knox, ASBCI Treasurer and conference sponsor Mark Lyness, managing director of Lectra UK, and fellow panelists Eddie Jones from Kufner Textil and Micheal Bentley of NWTexnet.

With such a controversial topic and excellent turn out, many are already anticipating a follow up to the 'Made in the UK' industry conference.
