ASBCI student members seminar 2014: Your Future in Fashion

Over 60 ASBCI student members from universities across the country headed to Salt Mills, Bradford on 11 March 2014 for the ‘Your Future in Fashion’ seminar to seek practical career advice from industry professionals. Providing a wealth of insider knowledge, hints and tips were Paul M Smith, Head of Technical & Sourcing at Nutmeg, Mat O’Neill, Recruitment Manager at Matalan, Beckie Pisacane, Assistant Merchandiser at BMB Clothing, Jo Toulmin, Technical Manager at Topman and Lindsay Clarke, Managing Director at recruitment agency Planet Personnel.
Students listened to advice given on setting up a brand and the pitfalls to watch out for, career paths and salaries on offer in the retail sector, and how to make a smooth transition from student life into the working world. A look into technical roles and the responsibilities involved gave the audience plenty to think about, as did the invaluable guide to creating a great CV. The overall feeling for the day was one of positivity with a lot of fantastic information being shared by the people in the know.
