ASBCI are pleased to announce a technical seminar dedicated to addressing and resolving issues relating to garment sizing and fit. The technically driven seminar will platform some of the clothing industry's foremost specialists in sizing and fit including the world's leading authority on the subject - Ed Gribbin (pictured right), President of Alvainsight, a division of Alvanon, which holds the industry's largest body-scan database. Ed, who is flying in from America especially for the seminar, will discuss the challenges facing brands, retailers and suppliers on the ever-changing body shapes around the world and the demand that different regions and territories across the UK and Europe, Asia and North America have with regard to fit and how companies can achieve radical improvements throughout the business structure by catering for the consumer through fit.

Also speaking will be Richard Barnes, Managing Director of Select Research, who are carrying out two large sizing surveys using 3-D scanners - Shape GB (a national childrenswear survey sponsored by major UK retailers) and The Body Benchmark Study (an international research project to develop Body Volume Index or BVI as a measurement for indicating obesity and health risk.

Other speakers at the seminar include Dr Steve Hayes, Principal Lecturer  and Clare Culliney, Programme Leader for Clothing Design and Technology Course, Manchester Metropolitan University who will expand on the technologies and methodologies they are using in collaboration with Select Research and how these are being incorporated into fashion courses; and Christopher Schyma, Strategic Account Manager, Lectra who will talk about the importance of accurate pattern making, communication between brands and their suppliers, and the advantages of 3-D Virtual Prototyping within collection management and fit quality; Paula Cannon, Head of Design from Incorporatewear will speak about how the corporate and workwear sectors are tackling fit issues; Louise Johnson, Retail Corporate Wardrobe Manager for Royal Bank of Scotland and Natwest will review the wearer's experience of size and fit
